DPOC Monthly Meeting, September 8, 2025| 7-8:30 pm
Welcome, Promise to America and Land Acknowledgement (3) Chair Emily Tseffos
Chair Tseffos welcomed attendees to the meeting and shared an overview of the agenda.
Approval of August Minutes (2) Secretary Mary Kohrell
Ronna Swift/Dale Schaber motion to approve the August member meeting minutes. Motion carried.
Review and Approve Treasurer’s Report (2) Treasurer Alyssa Vandenberg
Josh Kernan/Trisha Kostelny motion to approve the treasurer’s report. Motion carried.
8th Congressional District Updates (3) Carol Jensen-Olson
Carol Jensen-Olson from the Door County Democrats shared brief comments on behalf of the 8th CD. She is an officer with 8th CD. There is a concerted effort to improve communication between county Democrats and the 8th CD and she welcomed our input. .
City of Appleton Update: Adrian Stancil-Martin
Encouraged people to attend city council committee meeting if they have interest or concern in the student truancy ordinance being discussed by the council.
Presentation: Immigration in the Fox Valley (20) Molly Smiltneek
Smiltneek shared a presentation on the current status of immigration. A copy of her presentation is available upon request. She shared perspectives that she is experiencing as an immigration attorney, as well as ways that we can all be helpful.
Upcoming events and activities (5) Various speakers
The fundraiser for Casa Hispana is tonight and we’re attempting to raise $2,500.
Outagamie Action Teams (OATs) updates and recaps (5) Emily Tseffos

North Appleton Neighbor-to-Neighbor group has raised over $6,500 to help pay off the lunch debt at Appleton Area School District
Western Outagamie Democrats raised over $750 for the Hortonville Community food pantry through holding a brat fry.
Grand Chute Dems raised funds to purchase a grill and to fulfill the supply list for a local teacher.
Heart of the Valley OATs is exploring fundraising opportunities.
Vice Chair Election (10) Emily Tseffos
Josh Kernen was nominated by Mary Kohrell as Vice Chair of DPOC. He was elected as Vice-Chair. He introduced himself as a father of 4 sons who hopes to use his technology skills to support DPOC.
Weekend of Action and Textbanking opportunities (2) Trisha Kostelny
Trisha Kostelny reminded people about the upcoming weekend of action on Sept 20-21. She encouraged people to get involved as a canvasser. There will also be a textbank the next two Thursday nights to recruit volunteers.
Candidate Recruitment (3) Trisha Kostelny
Trisha informed attendees that there is a training session on Sept 25 to learn how to run for elected office.
Rep. Lee Snodgrass Comments:
Rep Snodgrass shared that the legislature will be in session this week. The bills to be considered are to address Republican priorities. She also indicated that Democrats in the legislature have all signed on to additional bills that are consistent with democratic priorities.
October Protest, Other Remarks (3) Emily Tseffos
Tseffos reminded people that there is much work to be done, and encouraged everyone to get involved and help make a positive impact. There is another large protest event scheduled for Oct 18.
