Outagmie Dems nearly sweep Spring Elections

By Trisha Kostelny, Political Outreach Chair

Thanks to everyone involved in our Spring election! We had some very big wins, from Chris Taylor for Supreme Court to almost all of the local candidates we supported.

Taylor won by 20 points statewide and by 16 in Outagamie County, meaning the Outagamie shift from Donald Trump's win in 2024 was more than 26 points. People across the county knew the stakes and voted accordingly.

Springtime is always challenging as candidates work for name recognition and to let the voters know who they are and what they stand for. They did the work. And even though we had a limited number of canvassers this spring, we still accomplished a great deal.  In county board races, we held on to two contested seats – Steve Thiede and Jerry Zabronsky. Two first-time candidates – Amy Ristow and Carla Hales – ousted Republican incumbents. And we found two other first-time candidates for vacant seats and now Pamela Saulnier and Patrick Amerson are set to serve.

We also recommended an Independent, Vered Meltzer, who retained her seat on Appleton’s Common Council. Our recommendations of Nick Ross, Kristine Sauter and Jason Kolpack for Appleton School Board were realized and we helped pass Appleton’s school referendum!

In Grand Chute, Rhonda Daily won handily in a seat vacated by Tim Bantes.

We thank all of those unopposed incumbents who identify as Democrats for serving another term.

It is difficult to put yourself “out there” and ask voters to cast their ballots for you. So a hearty thank you goes out to everyone who ran.

We’re taking a quick breath and getting back out there for the midterms with a bridge-building canvass May 16-17. It’s our first step to taking back the House! More details soon.
